Jewelry, explained honestly
Buying fine jewelry shouldn't feel like a gamble. Here's the plain-English version of what you're actually buying.
What are lab-grown diamonds?
A lab-grown diamond is a real diamond — same carbon structure, same hardness, and same sparkle as a mined one. It's created in a controlled lab environment instead of mined from the earth, which is why it costs significantly less for the same size and quality. Independent labs grade lab-grown diamonds on the same scale (carat, cut, color, clarity) as mined diamonds. We tell you the exact specs of every stone we set, so you know precisely what you're getting.
The 4 Cs, quickly
- Carat — the weight (and roughly the size) of the diamond.
- Cut — how well the diamond is shaped to reflect light. Cut drives sparkle more than anything else.
- Color — graded D (colorless) down through the alphabet. E–G reads white and near-colorless to the eye.
- Clarity — how few internal marks a stone has. VS–SI stones look clean without paying for flawless.
Understanding gold: 10K vs 14K
Gold karat tells you how much pure gold is in the metal. 14K is about 58% pure gold — a durable, richer-toned everyday standard. 10K is about 42% pure gold — harder and more affordable, with a slightly lighter tone. Both are solid gold. That's different from:
- Gold-plated — a thin layer of gold over another metal; wears off over time.
- Gold-filled — a thicker gold layer, but still not solid.
Everything we sell is solid gold — never plated or filled.
Caring for your pieces
- Store pieces separately so they don't scratch each other.
- Take jewelry off before swimming, showering, or working out when you can.
- Clean gold with warm water, mild soap, and a soft cloth.
